John Mitchell has been called both a genius and a madman in reviews of his earlier books The View Over Atlantis and The Flying Saucer Vision, both of which have become underground bestsellers in Britain and America. This new book, City of Revelation, will be even more controversial, for it presents evidence for the view that earlier civilizations understood better than our own the natural laws controlling seasons, human behavior, and the most subtle relationships between the whole of the universe and its parts. These relationships, says Michell, are analogues of harmonic relationships in music and of the elegant geometry of the ancients. They are preserved, as he demonstrates, in the forms of the great temples of man-the cathedral at chartres, Stonehenge, St. Mary's Chapel at Glastonbury, the Great Pyramid, the Temple in Jerusalem, and others. This proposition will no doubt be attacked by more conventional representatives of archaeology and anthropology. The reader will judge for himself if he accepts Mr. Mitchell's invitation to study the evidence put forward and the clues to the constitution of the cosmic canon.
