Effective Writing in English offers a systematic approach to writing in English for non-native speakers, with practical guidelines for structuring, developing and refining academic and professional texts. The first chapters focus on structure, such as how to correctly formulate an introduction, main body and conclusion, and how to build logical relationships between sentences and paragraphs. Mike Hannay is professor emeritus of English Linguistics and director of the Academic Language Programme at VU University Amsterdam. Together with J. Lachlan Mackenzie, professor emeritus of Functional Linguistics, he has extensive experience in teaching English to Dutch-speaking students.
