A scarce early‑war satirical work collecting anti‑Nazi jokes and underground humour circulating in Germany and occupied Europe on the eve of the Second World War. Compiled by Count Alfred Hessenstein, a German émigré from the former Grand Duchy of Hesse, this volume represents one of the earliest English‑language attempts to document resistance humour emerging from within the expanding Nazi concentration camp system. Illustrated throughout with sharp, expressive cartoons by the elusive artist “Spitz,” whose identity remains uncertain.
