Matteo Pericoli trained as an architect in Milan before moving to New York in 1995.
He arrived just days before the decade’s largest snowstorm, and the city’s eerie stillness in its aftermath left a lasting impression on him.
He later encountered a similar sensation while photographing Riverside Drive from a Circle Line ferry, which inspired him to translate those images into a line drawing.
This marked the beginning of a larger project: documenting New York’s entire shoreline—from Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and New Jersey, which he explored by motorcycle—and transforming it into two continuous, mesmerizing pen-and-ink drawings of Manhattan’s skyline.
The volume includes an introduction by the distinguished New Yorker architecture critic Paul Goldberg
