Automobili Lancia, Vincenzo’s Formative Era 1906-1925.
While only a few of the numerous automobile pioneers from the early pre-1900 years survived, a new generation of ambitious entrepreneurs
emerged in the new 20th century. One of them was Italian Vincenzo Lancia, initially renowned for his heroic motor racing for the Fiat Grand Prix
team. But in November 1906, while still racing under a well-paid contract with Fiat, he founded his Fabbrica Automobili in Turin.
Within a year his first car, a cleverly engineered light 2.5 litre car, emerged and won success in homeland Italy as well as in the USA and England.
Ever since, Lancia’s fortunes were the result of refined engineering and commercial talents. He overcame the global economic setback of the horrific first world war, researched advanced V-engine ideas and survived the first two decades of the new century, a period in which he laid foundations for his later successes.
It was renowned car journalist and historian Wim Oude Weernink, author of the respected La Lancia ’bible’ among other related publications, who
put all his knowledge into a 136 page book. It counts for 345 pictures, documents and illustrations – the majority never published before because sourced from several unknown hidden archives. The result is a true document on Vincenzo Lancia successful entry into the hard-fought car industry.
Engels, hardcover, 2025, 136 pagina’s, 345 illustraties, Wim Oude Weernink. Publisher: Simon Stevin, division of Draaiboomken N.V.
