The marvellous illustrations are done by I. Pcheko (И. Пчелко). They are atmospheric and enchanting for children.
"The Steel Ring" is a heartwarming winter tale set in rural Russia. The story revolves around a young girl, Varvara (Варюша), and her grandfather, Kuzma. The story deals with kindness and generosity: Kuzma gives Varvara a steel ring, which becomes a symbol of their bond and the magic of kindness. The story is set in a snowy Russian village, and the winter landscape plays a significant role. The ring is said to bring good luck and happiness. The relationship between Varvara and her grandfather is central to the story.
