The glass artist Petr Hora's ten-year solo career can be distinctly divided into several periods. In the first one, he created tranquil monochromatic objects with smooth, austerely exact forms. The frequent combination of a straight plane with graceful curve had its origin in the initial raw material, from which the artist removed the glass by grinding until he achieved a form approximating to an ideal. Spatial arches, cones, pyramids and wedge shapes are dominated by the Sand Sphinx; its majestic yellow mass reminds one not only of a deathly stone-like silent woman with a lion's body, but also of a shifting sand dune on an African desert heated by the sun or of an unusual Pyramid of ancient pharaohs.
