= Rare. The early volumes of the Memoirs of the Asiatic Society of Bengal are among the most important early works on South and Southeast Asian studies. Published by the Asiatic Society in Calcutta under Sir William Jones, they mark the beginning of modern Oriental scholarship. These volumes cover a wide range of subjects, including linguistics and philology, religion and philosophy, history and archeology, natural sciences, ethnography and cultural history.
