= In Batak social organization the marga is one of the basic kinship units and traces descent to a single male ancestor. A Batak marga family tree, known as a tarombo, traces patrilineal descent from a common ancestor, traditionally Si Raja Batak, through father-son lineage. These clan-based family trees define social relationships and are rooted in Batak culture, with different ethnic groups having their own versions of these genealogical traditions. Some minor defects (tears, discolouring).
