It is typical of his selec- tive look back on the first phase of his development, with which a pamphlet of 1942 begins, that there is only one mention of his early landscapes, after which attention is focussed on those flowers « Even at this time, I disliked particular movement, such as people in action. I enjoyed painting flowers, not bouquets, but a single flower at a time, in order that I might better express its plastic structure.”
