= Never before seen collection of the first three editions in their original dustjackets.These early editions are notoriously fragile and extremely hard to find in their original dustjackets. The first edition bears a contemporary warm-hearted gift inscription in pen on endpapers: "Voor Jeanne Henzel, Opdat wij nooit vergeten Juli 29/ '47" [To Jeanne Henzel, lest we never forget, July 29 '47"]. The first edition was printed in June 1947 in 3036 copies; the second edition in December 1947 (6830 copies), the third edition in February 1948 (10500 copies). Anne Frank began her diary on her 13th birthday, 12 June 1942 during the nazi-occupation of The Netherlands, while she was hiding underground in Amsterdam. The diary was found in the hiding place "Het Achterhuis" by Miep Gies after Anne, her family and many other other Jews had been transported to the nazi-concentraton camp. Miep Gies was one of the helpers during the family's hiding in the secret annexe "the Achterhuis". She returned the diary to Anne's father Otto Frank, who was the only survivor of the hiding group. Otto found a publisher for the diary and it remains a classic or world literature today. Anne died in March 1945 in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Condition: First edition: the dustjacket has been expertly restored (full restoration report available; restored sections: foot of spine 1 cm.; lower inner corner frontpanel (0,8 x 0,8 cm.) and lower margin center, affecting letters (1,5 x 0,8 cm.); blank section backwrapper upper inner corner (ca. 2 x 4 cm.)); the front folding flap is lacking (not visible from the outside of the book); dustjacket with vague horizontal fold (formerly laid in) and has wear and patina along extremities, giving testimony of its authenticity, age and fragility. The book itself in fine condition. All in all a very good copy - considering the notorious fragility of the binding and the brittle paper used for printing and dustjacket. Second edition: dustjacket with wear and chipping along extremities with small sections lacking on back-panel and foot of spine. The book itself in fine condition with no inscriptions etc. Third edition: splendid copy - firm in the hinges, which is very rare. The dustjacket complete, unrestored and in very fine condition with only edgewear.
