Zijn marmeren beelden ontstaan in de klassieke traditie: gehakt uit natuursteen, de mythologie als inspiratiebron voor de uitbeelding van universele verhoudingen tussen mensen.
Schonks interesse is uiteindelijk abstract, eerder filosofisch dan psychologisch. In dit boek zijn de belangrijkste beelden van Schonk bijeengebracht. Louk Tilanus, kunsthistoricus, schreef het verhaal bij deze beelden en plaatst daarmee de kunstenaar in de traditie.
Aart Schonk. Myths and Metamorphoses in Marble provides for the first time an extensive overview of the extraordinary sculptures of this artist. Aart Schonk (1946) follows in the Florentine tradition of Donatello and Michelangelo.
His marble sculptures arise from the classical tradition: carving in natural stone, with mythology as the source of inspiration for the representation of universal relationships between people.
Schonk's interest is ultimately abstract, more philosophical than psychological. This book brings together Schonk's most important pieces. Art historian Louk Tilanus has written the story of these sculptures, thereby placing the artist in the tradition.
