Ida Laura Pfeiffer (1797 –1858), was an Austrian explorer, travel writer, and ethnographer. She was one of the first female travellers, whose bestselling journals were translated into seven languages. She journeyed an estimated 32,000 kilometres by land and 240,000 kilometres by sea through Southeast Asia, the Americas, Middle East, and Africa, including two trips around the world from 1846 to 1855.
She was one of the first female explorers, whose popular books were translated into seven languages. She was a member of geographical societies of both Berlin and Paris, but not of the Royal Geographical Society in London due to her sex.
The book is in good condition after a professional restauration. School price (1880) in manuscript on first endpaper.
A clean copy, not yellowed or (age) stained, binding soiled but firm.
