- What is special about Boris Mikhailov as a "bookmaker" is that he thinks and develops photography in sequences and successions, in gaps and cuts, in the forms of montage. When viewed together, the original photographic books and book drafts, often only existing in one copy, create a retrospective of a very unique, intimate kind. The artist books "Krymskaja Fotomanija" and "Mountains" are shown in facsimile form on 128 pages each, interrupted by an 80-page illustrated text series. Boris Mikhailov is considered a chronicler of the history of his Ukrainian homeland: the everyday life of the so-called "little people" on the street, on the beach, at dance events - wherever politics becomes visible in private. From this material, Mikhailov develops overarching questions about the conditionality of human existence as well as the history and downfall of the USSR and its consequences.
