Sanders compiled the manuscript for the original issue of The Flower Garden he put a great deal of labour into the task of producing a work that should provide practical instruction upon every phase of flowering-plant culture. His aim was to kindle interest in gardening for pleasure and then to guide the newly awakened enthusiasts along the path of progress by which succes may be reached. First, he eulogised the cahrm of beautiful gardens, then told how they are made, and pointed out errors to be avoided in the process. The maintenance of a graden when made and the routine work of upkeep were carefully detailed, and the art of propagation was clearly explained..."
