Plus d'informations
= A rare find - the first issue dates from 2nd August 1796. A true incunable of stock exchange newsletters. "Although lists of prices and rates had previously been distributed, experts consider the 'Prys-Courant der Effecten' by Nicolaas Cotray, published since August 2, 1796, as the first real price list for stocks and bonds. The newspaper was published twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Cotray, printer, bookseller and publisher, responded to the spirit of the times. For a long time, stockjobbing was so small-scale that it could be done without official price lists; market parties knew each other and trusted each other. But trading grew, new players appeared on the scene and bond trading fell under the spell of large price fluctuations. Contains stock lists for Dutch provinces, City of Amsterdam, Dutch East India Company (V.O.C.), British East India Company, bonds for American land (i.a. Washington city, American Funds in New York (National Bank), auction announcements for i.a. Dutch East India Company (V.O.C.) and bonds. Cotray received its data from the first trade-organization in Amsterdam, the 'Collegie tot Nut des Obligatiehandels' [College for Bond Trading]. Founded in 1789, the College's main purpose was to check quotations and provide reliable price data. The regular publication of a price list supported that objective. Since Cotray, many publishers and institutions have been involved in the publication of the price list. The last publisher was the stock exchange company Euronext. Since 2009, the price list of this legal successor to the College has only been published online. Yet Cotray still has a legal successor on paper. Because the Financieele Dagblad also goes back to this first price list. The subtitle 'Everything that has no financial bearing' - since 1796, still quietly testifies to this." (Source: web article on beursgeschiedenis).Founded in 1602, the Amsterdam Stock Exchange is widely recognized as the first formal stock exchange in the world. It was established to trade shares of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) - the first multinational corporation to issue public stock. This made Amsterdam the birthplace of modern capitalism, shareholding, and stock trading as we know it. The Amsterdam Stock Exchange was the prototype - it invented much of what we now call financial markets. London and New York built upon and expanded this foundation, adapting it to new economic and geopolitical realities. The official founding of the London Stock Exchange happened nearly 200 years after Amsterdam’s.The New York Stock Exchange was founded with the Buttonwood Agreement in 1792. The city of New York itself was originally the Dutch colony New Amsterdam, and Dutch financial culture had a strong early influence. NYSE adopted and expanded on European trading models, eventually becoming the dominant global financial center in the 20th century.
