= Rare second English edition (only 1 copy in The Netherlands (UvA)). The first Latin edition was published in 1709 in Leyden. The first English edition was published in 1715 and based on the 1715 Latin edition. Our copy is the second English edition in a new translation, based on the 1722 Latin edition. In 1701, at the age of thirty-three, Boerhaave was appointed lecturer in medicine at the University of Leyden. Seven years later his lectures were published and considered to be the first textbook of physiology and a medical classic.
