The Pelican History of England Series nr. 4. A nice, comprehensive account of historical events and how they affected customs, religious life and arts in the late middle ages. The author correctly labels later accusations levelled at Richard III as ridiculous propaganda, gives him credit when its due and is pretty harsh but fair about Henry VII and all the fairytale that he brought peace in a warring country etc. He correctly labels both his and the early Lancastrian kings' an usurpation, and concedes that the Duke of York bacame an enemy because Margaret of Anjou and Somerset made him one.
