¶ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was in Zuid-Afrika getuige bij het huwelijk in 1905 van zijn joodse 'soulmates' Millie Graham Down en Henry Polak (1882-1959) en volgens sommige boze bronnen had hij een verhouding met Millie, die haar eerste ontmoeting met hem beschrijft: "[he had] the kindest eyes in the world, that seemed to light up from within when he spoke. [...] His voice was soft, rather musical, and almost boyishly fresh".
