Christofel Colonus (Portrait of Christopher Columbus) Half-length portrait of Christopher Columbus, holding a sextant, a ship in the background. Within a border of dolphins, with a cartouche in the lower edge. Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 312 x 201 mm., platemark 286 x 174 mm. This print was published as an illustration to Arnoldus van Bergen's "De Nieuwe en onbekende weereld of Beschryving van America" (Amsterdam: Jacob van Meurs, 1671). In good condition. The sheet a little toned, overall. A faint dampstain in the top margin.
