Guizot Portrait of François Guizot. François Pierre Guillaume Guizot (1787-1874) was a French historian, orator, and statesman. Guizot was a dominant figure in French politics prior to the Revolution of 1848. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 274 x 176 mm., platemark 224 x 151 mm. Engraved by Charles Blanc, after the drawing made by Calamatta, based on P. Delaroche's painting. Published in: Cormenin, Louis-Marie de Lahaye. Livre des orateurs. Parijs: L.A. Pagnerre, 1842. Charles Blanc (Castres 1813-1882 Paris) was an art critic, art theorist, printmaker and director of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Luigi Calamatta (Civitavecchia 1801/02-1869 Milan) was an Italian lithographer, (reproductive) engraver, draftsperson and academy director. He took part in the July Revolution and the French Revolution of 1848. Paul Delaroche (Paris 1797-1856) was a French painter, sculptor and fresco artist. In very good condition, some small stains in the lower margin.
