This Haggadah is presented not in disagreement with tradition but to restore to our Passover observance something of its earlier tradition of spontaneity, of connection to current life, and hence to universal freedom efforts. It is called an "Israel" Haggadah because such e renewed and enlivened tradition has already come into being in Israel, particularly in the kibbutz movement where a variety of texts is in use.
In Israel, the Exodus from Egypt is an ever-present reality because of direct, continuous contact with historic sites, and web have therefore tried to convey that contact through photographs. Finally, inn Israel the Passover is celebrated in many variations, and yet in unity, by Jews from all over the world - by Algerians, Americans, Australians, Bokharans, Europeans, Yemenites, from the ultra-orthodox to the atheistic.
'An Israel. Haggadah', then, aspires to bring to the celebrant a sense of participation in this unity. (...).
Haggadah means "what is said". Seder means the order of events, or, if one wishes, the program.
The Passover Haggadah is what is said, sung, recited, and enacted each year at the family feast called the Seder, a joyous celebration and something of a rite, but not a sacerdotal ritual, held in remembrance of the Exodus from slavery in Egypt. (...)'.
