AERONCA C-2, first built in 1929, marked the emergence of general aviation in the United States. This book tells the story of the plane's designer and his struggle to develop and build a small, safe and inexpensive aircraft that anyone could own and fly. This first little plane, restored for display in the National air and Space Museum, opend a previously untapped market - ownership by the general public.
Jay P. Spenser, who began flying in his late teens, is now on the aeronautics research staff of the National Air and Space Museum. He is the author of several recent feature-length articles in 'Wings and Airpower'. Genral aviation - small and privately owned aircraft - is this particular interest.
