A celebration in picture and word of the magnificence and variety of African birds of prey. Covering 80 southern African species, Steyn’s general-interest text is intended primarily for the layman, but also draws attention to new information on southern African raptors published since 1982. It is also a plea for the conservation of these birds, dealing with the many threats that face them in a changing and shrinking environment. A full-colour frontispiece and 34 magnificent, large format colour paintings by bird artist Graeme Arnott’s compliment this volume, Of particular interest is the chapter “The Making of a Picture”, detailing Arnott’s painting techniques and development of style, as well as the inclusion of working drawings: anatomical studies which provide the artist with valuable reference material when working on paintings at a later stage.

* Ewold signeerde zelf bijna al zijn boeken, en dit feit wordt als zodanig dan ook niet nog extra vermeld in de beschrijving.
