"The concern of this book is to make the individual Indian's experience available to the reader. There are certain themes in Indian thought which colour the culture and the attitudes of Indian people. These it is that the author describes and then tries to bring out the implications of each one for the nature of human experience. The book is divided into two parts representing the two levels on which Indian religious experience takes place. The first emphasises the fact that the Indian mind accepts 'the world as it is' as part of its integral experience. The second concerns transcendence and describes the way in which the Indian mind understands the self, that which transcends the self and the possible ways to transcendence."
