"In April 1991, 499 years after Columbus, a group of 23 graduate physics students of the University of Twente made the great journey to the New World: the United States and Canada. Together with the coaches prof. W.J. Caspers, his wife E. Caspers and prof. H. Rogalla 19 major research institutes of companies and universities were visited. They had lectures, labtours and scientific discussions with the aim to gain more insight in the American approach of research and in recent developments in modern physics.
In this book the reports on the subjects discussed are presented. Each participant contributed one chapter that deals with a company visited. Together these reports give a good impression of modern physics in the fields of: modern optics, new materials, computational physics and energy resources."
