Controversial WHO report by British colonial psychiatrist John Colin Carothers, who served as director of the Mathari Psychiatric Hospital in Nairobi (Kenya). The work analyses the mental health of Africans through a colonial, racial lens and was later widely criticised for its pseudoscientific approach. Carothers also wrote a report on the Mau Mau uprising (1954) attributing it to 'psychological deficiencies' of Kenyans.
