Questo Diario clandestino, come scriveva Guareschi, "è talmente clandestino che non è neppure un diario". Ma sono pagine che erano state scritte nel Lager e per il Lager, e lette da Giovannino passando da baracca a baracca per regalare un sorriso o un motivo di riflessione ai compagni di prigionia. Pagine che possono dare un'idea di quei momenti, di quei pensieri, di quelle sofferenze. Guareschi in quei giorni tragici non cedette, né materialmente né, soprattutto, spiritualmente. Diceva: "Non muoio neanche se mi ammazzano". Non morì. E oggi è più vivo che mai.
