About this book:
The 135 pages contain 241 black-and-white and duotone illustrations and 44 color images.
Some pages can be unfolded 2 times to form 3 continuous pages and some even up to 3 times to form a whole of 4 pages together (see photo 5).
The yellow cloth hardcover and dust jacket show some signs of age and use. The pages themselves are bright, clean and fresh and look like new.

About the book:
Published along with Marg magazine Vol. 31 No. 3 (June 1978), this book was one of the first hardcover editions of the publishing house that began its magazines in 1976. Edited by Mulk Raj Anand, who founded Marg in 1946, the book is a tribute to Raja Dinkar Kelkar and his vast collection of art and cultural objects from around the country, housed in his museum in Pune. In addition to Anand's editorial and texts by Jyotindra Jain and Jutta-Jain Neubauer, the book includes a note on the origins of the collection by Raja Dinkar Kelkar himself.
The story:
Mastani - a lady personality attached with the name of the great worrier Peshwa Bajirao I, she was supposed to be the daughter of Chhatrasal Bundela, the king of Bundelkhand (Madhya Pradesh). Mastani was known as a most beautiful queen as well as a brave lady. Bajirao I is known to have built a palace for his beloved ‘Mastani’ at Kothrud near Pune City in 1734 A.D. The founder of the museum Late Dr. Kelkar dismantled this historical palace with help of skilled artisan and reconstructed in the original position in the premises of the museum. From this one can realise India’s aesthetic glory.
