The emblems have a caption, a biblical quotation and a poem, followed by a number of other quatations from the scripture. A lovely emblemata, first published in 1710. One of the most famous of Luiken’s works published in several editions. This is an early ed. with excellent quality of the etchings.
Jan Luiken collected poems that were a cinic view/ critique on a values-less world embellished with embematic views of figures in a historic / classical setting. These pictures are to warn the reader to act and live according to the values suggested in the bible
