Plus d'informations
With his brooding good looks, mercurial temperament, and tragic early death, Jackson Pollock has become an almost mythical figure. Unfortunately, fascination with the drama of his life has tended to crowd out clearheaded analysis of his work. This volume presents the first well-balanced overview of both the life and the art, stripping away the romanticizing that has obscured them both.
Willem de Kooning once said, "Pollock broke the ice," and Pollock's fearless assault on all aesthetic conventions certainly offered a point of departure for many of the most inventive artists of his own and subsequent generations. With Elizabeth Frank's thoughtful evaluation, we gain valuable insight into this challenging artist's ideas, working methods, and the art itself.
About the Author Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Louise Bogan: A Portrait, Elizabeth Frank has also written extensively on art and literature for various journals, including Artnews, Art in America, The Nation, and The Bennington Review. MS.Frank currently teaches English at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and has previously taught at Temple University, University of California at Irvine, Williams College, and Mills College.
