Hungarian horse-drawn barge Caption: 'Ungarischen Schiffzug'. Six horses (most with riders) are attached to a horse-drawn barge (Dutch: trekschuit) on the banks of the Danube. A sixth horse with rider to the right. Etching on wove paper, made by Johann Adam Klein after his own design, published by Ferdinand Kettner (Vienna), dated 1814. Sheet size 346 x 249 mm., platemark 242 x 198 mm. Johann Adam Klein (Nuremberg 1792 - 1875 Munich) was a German painter and printmaker. Many of his graphic works display soldiers or figures with various occupations. He also made many etchings of domestic animals. In very good condition, the image clean and crisp, a dampstain in the lower right margin (not affecting image), and some general soiling and faint foxing in the margin edges.
