Army camp near a keep Landscape with centrally an imposing fortress. Two cannons are pointing at the castle from the foreground, with army tents and two soldiers standing guard to the right. However, as there are also groups of civilians on the path to the keep, as well as around the cannons and barrels in the foreground, this seems to be a time of peace. Etching on wove paper, sheet size 263 x 118 mm., platemark 169 x 93 mm., by Adam Perelle, after his own design, c. 1650-1695. Adam Perelle (1638-1695) was a French printmaker, from a family of printmakers (his father was Gabriel Perelle, his younger brother Nicolas Perelle), is mostly remembered for his series of depictions of French palaces. This print bears the number 50, so is very probably from a much larger series. Another state bears the number 2 from a series of 12 landscapes. In good condition, with ample margins, and a strong impression. The sheet (except image area) faintly browned, and with tape remains in the four corners (this suggests previous matting).
