= Rare first edition of the work that is considered the culmination of classical geometry and was a monumental unification of classical geometry based on a new conception of projective geometry and a new approach to conic sections. Steiner was committed to the unification and reverence of classical geometry, and that his work was aremarkable success by these standards, but later generations imposed different standards of success, downplaying historical continuity and favouring intrinsically motivated programmatic agendas, which caused a lastingdepreciation of Steiner’s work. Jakob Steiner was a Swiss mathematician who worked primarily in geometry. After Steiner's publication (1832) of his Systematische Entwickelungen he received, through Carl Gustav Jacob Jacobi, who was then professor at Königsberg University, and earned an honorary degree there; and through the influence of Jacobi and of the brothers Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt a new chair of geometry was founded for him at Berlin (1834). This he occupied until his death in Bern on 1 April 1863. Backstrip lacking. Copy presented to Dr. Roland Weitzenbock (1885-1955), Austrian mathematician, at his promotion. He was working on differential geometry and introduced the Weitzenböck-connection. He was appointed professor of mathematics at the University of Amsterdam in 1923.
