The story of the development, deployment and war record of the Vultee Vengeance dive bomber.
The Vultee Vengeance is one of the unsung aircraft of the Second World War. Having seen active service only in the Far East - in SEAC with Royal Air Force and Indian Air Force Squadrons and also in the Australasian region with the Royal Australian Air Force. The Allied Squadrons in SEAC made a significant contribution in the advance of the XIV Army in Burma.
In an era that produces hundreds (if not thousands) of books on P-51 Mustangs, Supermarine Spitfires and the other glamourous aircraft, it would be a surprise to find that this is the only book ever written on the Vengeance - and no one else had made any effort since then!
This book by Peter Smith does a wonderful job covering the career of a hitherto unknown aircraft - from its development days, technical details, and operational service. The Author consulted a good number of veterans who flew the aircraft and also refers to official Operational Record Book entries from the National Archives etc. The Operations by the RAF, IAF and RAAF Squadrons are covered in great detail over two to three chapters.
