Attractively illustrated book on what used to be the proud town hall (built in 1648, the year of the formal independence of the Dutch Republic of which Amsterdam was the most important town and of which the new town hall was its proud expression), in 1808 usurped by the French occupant-king Louis Napoleon, and thereafter kept in Dutch royal possession, unfortunately. The book deals with the building's history and the furnishing of the principal rooms. Tekst ook in het Nederlands.
