Outstanding book! It was published back in 1983, so it obviously doesn't include the latest Soviet / Russian aircraft. For example, it does not include the MiG-29, MiG-31, MiG-35, the various advanced Sukhoi aircraft, or the Tupolev Tu-160 bomber. It includes both military and civilian aircraft.
Many of the airplanes described in this book are still in service in the new Russian Federation Air Force in possibly upgraded versions, so the book still has some use. In any case, in my opinion it offers a great aircraft history of the former USSR aircraft industry.
Back in 1983, I would give this book 5 Stars. Today (2018) there are books that offer more detail and more current information on specific Design Bureaus such as Tupolev, MiG,and Sukhoi and on specific airplanes. I haven't found anything, however, that covers all the aircraft and design bureaus like this book does.
