Brouwer, [1768], 8vo., parchment cover, 48 pp., the cover is slightly smaller than the printed pages, so the bottom right corner has considerable folded corners, some stains and some markings in ink, but otherwise in surprisingly good condition considering it concerns a children's school-book, with a woodcut on the titlepage depicting what looks like a teacher and his students. No copy in the collec. Interesting detail: the booklet is printed in two colums. In the first part two fonts are used: a Gothic font in the left column and the Civilité in the right column. The second part is printed using the Civilité in both columns. This typeface was created in 1557 by the French engraver Robert Granjon to imitate the handwritten French cursive of the Renaissance. It was mostly employed to print books in Flanders, Holland, England and France. The Civilité was used until the second half of the 19th century to print children's lesson-books teaching civility and manners from which the type got its name.
