The first publication of the Nobel laureate' “swan song”. This is essay on the future of Russia by Solzhenitsyn, who was living at that time in the USA.
The article was published at the end of Soviet era in a state that was falling apart Komsomolskaya Pravda and Literaturnaya Gazeta at the same day.
In this essay, Solzhenitsyn review and describes the past of his Homeland, searches for parallels with the Soviet Union warns of future problems – basically anticipating the catastrophe that happened a little more than a year later, in 1991.
The publication caused a state-wide response among the people of the USSR. However, there were no simple and quick answers about how to cope with the crisis and Solzhenitsyn himself later remarked - “I, unfortunately, have not been heard.”
