Eirik Johnson: Borderlands
12 x 8 inches
80 pages, Hardcover
31 Four-color plates
Designed by Jack Woody and Eirik Johnson
ISBN: 1-931885-42-7
Publisher: Twin Palms Publishers and the Museum of Contemporary Photography (2005)
Beginning in late 2001, Eirik Johnson's on-going series Borderlands navigates unclaimed spaces in search of serendipitous encounters, in awe of the various and temporary relationships that develop where human and environmental forces meet. The book’s spine design allows for each spread to lay perfectly flat; there is no page curving or edge flaring to draw the reader’s attention away from the drama and tension of each scene. It features an introduction by Rod Slemmons, former director of the Museum of Contemporary Photography. Work from Borderlands was on exhibition at the MoCP from August 2 - October 1, 2005
Seattle-based photographer and mixed-media artist Eirik Johnson has exhibited his work at spaces including the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, and the Aperture Foundation in New York. He has received numerous awards including the 2012 Neddy at Cornish Award in Open Medium, the Santa Fe Prize in 2005, and a William J. Fulbright Grant to Peru in 2000. His work is held in the permanent collections of institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Seattle Art Museum, and the George Eastman House, Rochester, NY.
