This first public labyrinth on the corner of the Prinsengracht en de Looiersgracht was intended as an amusement park. The owner, Vincent Jacobsz. Coster, planted hedges and assembled statues of famous figures, which are also depicted in the print. They are biblical figures (David, Goliath, King Salomon and Mordecai), monarchs (Willem I, and rulers from England, Sweden, Persia, and China), and other figures, such as a shepherd and a faun.(Marijke Spies, Amsterdamse doolhoven.
