In Part I, Ken Molson recounts the history of the HS type from its beginning as a maritime patrol aircraft through World War I. The HS-2L was a most successful type and went on to a varied postwar civil and military career in ten countries. It played a special role in Canada's aviation history. ‘La Vigilance’, the world's first bush aircraft, was recovered from the bottom of a northern Ontario lake and restored by the National Aviation Museum. It is the only HS-2L now in existence and the fascinating story of its history, recovery and re-creation is told in Part II by A.J. Shortt. Extensively illustrated with many rare photographs as well as excellent three-view drawings of the HS-1L, HS-2L, and HS-3L and contains a chronology, bibliography and index.
