Gerhard Rohlfs (1831-1896), German explorer of Africa, undertook a trip to Abyssinia in the winter of 1880-1881 on the orders of the German Emperor. Although the company had more diplomatic character, it also gained scientific importance. Rohlfs succeeded in the complete admission of the Tana lake, until he finally set out to the Galla countries.
