- Rare first edition of main work of Antonius Matthaeus II (1601-1654), born in Marburg. He taught at Harderwijk and became professor at Utrecht University in 1634. This groundbreaking publication on roman criminal law is generally considered to be one of the first modern commentaries. The commentaries were arranged in a methodical order which comprised a complete system of criminal law. He already includes elements of natural law and cited Hugo Grotius' 'Iure belli ac pacis' often.
