These chapters are particulary stimulating and valuable. In the main part of his book Professor Cloché has written a clear, well-documented, and impartial history of the democracy. The great merit of the book is its fidelity to the written sources. The evidence is carefully marshalled and presented before a verdict is given on any controversial topic.' (N.G.L.
