George Alan O'Dowd, better known as Boy George, was born in 1961 in Eltham/ England. He made a name for himself as a New Romantics DJ around London in 1979.
Together with DJ Michael Craig and drummer Jon Moss, he co-founded Culture Club in 1982. They achieved global fame with their hits "Karma Chameleon" and "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me". In 1985, the band took a time-out due to personal disagreements. A comeback attempt failed to take off, and in 1987, the band decided to break up. Boy George released his solo effort "Sold" the very same year, and landed a number one hit in the British charts with the single "Everything I Own". The extravagant musician put together a new band called Jesus Loves You in 1989 and signed them to his own label, More Protein. He also took up work as a DJ again and released two books - his biography "Take It Like A Man" as well as the "Karma Cookbook". His Broadway musical "Taboo" was a great success in recent years.
