Very nice uniform and clean complete set with hardly any foxing of this selection mainly of texts (in French) of the churchfathers by Le père Guillon (1746-1867). It is the Belgian reprint edition of the set produced in Paris 1822-1829. Guillon was librarian and almoner in the household of the princesse de Lamballe, and when in 1792 she was executed, he fled to the provinces, where under the name of Pastel he practised medicine. A man of facile conscience, he afterwards served in turn under Napoleon, the Bourbons and the Orleanists, and became canon of St Denis, bishop of Morocco and dean of the Sorbonne. 11 volumes (10 - 20, p. 325) are entirely dedicated to Saint Chrysostôme and his works; in vol. 20 also 11 pp. on Saint Denys l'Aréopagite; volumes 22 and 23 only on Saint Augustin. Small stamp on first blank flyleaf in each volume, some slight defects only to capitals and boards. Cf: Brunet, II, 1825; Peignot, Manuel du Bibliophile, II, 142.
