192 pp. 14,75 x 22 x 2,25 cm. 434 gr. Jacket design by Kenneth Farnhill. Stock of the original edition which was entitled The England of Charles II, was destroyed in the blitz of 1940; this new edition is both revised and illustrated with black/white plate. An indispensable companion to Sir Arthur Bryant's other seventeenth century studies. The book describes 'a visit to a far country...the land we now inhabit, but then occupied by our great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents'. 'I have tried', the author writes, 'to depict that century as they knew it - the feel and sense of it, its sights, sounds and even smells.'
