This is an outstanding book. The National Geographic staff assembled a magnificent collection of engineering achievements going back as far as The Pyramids, and then working their way up to current solar and wind power generation. Nineteen separate chapters, each celebrating a specific technology-type. Sample chapter titles -- railroads, skyscrapers, domes. Sixteen others as well.
The book is worth twice the price for the marvelous photos alone. But there is supporting text on every page which helps bring meaning to the photos.
This is truly a celebration of engineering, applied science, and construction technology, all portrayed in the broad panorama of history. I think it would be an outstanding gift to any young person thinking about a career in this area, and it delightfully entertaining and informative at all levels from grade school to old age.
