In jewellery making there are four simple basic operations- sawing, filing, silver soldering, and finishing (polishing). The reader of this book is taken through those operations in easy stages and with numerous illustrations amplifying the text: tools, their names and uses; the techniques of silver soldering; Hall-marking, why and where; polishing and finishing; plus numerous designs. To begin with, equipment need not be extensive or expensive. A few good hand tools and silver soldering equipment are the main requirements for the making of simple jewellery in copper and silver. As experience is gained so the tool kit will tend to grow and the scope of the hobby will extend.
